                                                   Sidelights of the final selection

Mr. Shengwei, the curator of Guanlan International Print Biennial 2017, remarked that with the hosting grand events like Guanlan International Print Biennial, Guanlan International Printmaking Base has concentrated the excellent print artists and their works from hundreds of countries. It could be concluded that Guanlan Printmaking Base ranks the first in the printmaking field worldwide and it is rather impressive. Tracing the stages of histories of the international world and China itself, printmaking art has always been progressing with the development of printing industry. In the very beginning, printmaking art was included in mass culture, which has stepped into mere aesthetics of art after original prints broke away from the mass culture. Guanlan Original Printmaking Base and Guanlan International Print Biennial are exactly the combination of printmaking art and printing industry. On one hand, printmaking works are examined and selected, and their characteristics of the times, the innovativeness and the academics are fairly valued; on the other hand, we have been trying demonstrating the features of printmaking art to make access to the appreciation of people in art. Meanwhile, to a great country of printmaking art, such as China, the hosting of a high-leveled print biennial is not merely a grand gala of vision for the public, but also is building up a new site for artists around the globe to have communication and exchanges in art.
