A Review on the Preliminary Evaluation of the 6th Guanlan International Print Biennial 2017
 
    Ever since the call for submission of the 6th Guanlan International Print Biennial, hosted by China Artists Association, jointly organized by Shenzhen Literary and Arts Circle and Shenzhen Longhua District Government, we have witnessed the great enthusiasm and active participation of artists from home and overseas. Up to then, there were 4,054 works of 2,175 artists from 83 countries and regions, in which 1,130 domestic artists’(Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan included) works count for 2,424 pieces, and 1,045 foreign artists, 1,630 pieces, respectively. In advance of the preliminary evaluation, the number marks and labels have been tagged with each single work. All works have been framed and placed in order in the exhibition hall on the 4th floor of China Printmaking Museum, waiting for the first round of evaluation.
    On March 10th, 2017, organized by Print Art Committee of China Artists Association, the preliminary evaluation of the 6th Guanlan International Print Biennial had been undergoing in tensity, but smoothly. The juries were: Mr. Jianglu, the director of Print Art Committee of China Artists Association, Mr. Tanping, the associate dean of Chinese National Academy of Arts, Mr. Su Xinping, the associate dean of China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Mr. Yu Chengyou, the dean of Printmaking Academy in Heilongjiang Province, Mr. Yangyue, the associate director of the Department of Creation and Research of China National Academy of Painting, Mr. Liangyu, the vice president of Guangdong Artists Association and Shenzhen Literary and Arts Circle, Mr. Kang Jianfei, the associate director and secretary of Printmaking Art Committee of China Artists Association, Mr. Zhongxi, the dean of Normal College of Shenzhen University, Mr. Shengwei, the deputy editor of journal ART. The people in charge of evaluation supervising were: Ms. Hexun, the deputy director of the Department of Art Undertaking of the Art Committee of China Literary and Arts Circle, Mr. Likang, the director of Guanlan       Original Printmaking Base and the executive curator of China Printmaking Museum.
    The evaluation of Guanlan International Print Biennial adheres to the principles of “Serving People and Socialism” and “Letting a Hundred Flowers Bloom and a Hundred Schools of Thought Contend”. Abiding by the rules of art, following the characteristics of the time, the academics, the diversities, the innovativeness and the orientation, the evaluation has been done with strict obedience in jury rules, evaluation methods and evaluation procedure. It has been guaranteed with just, fairness and openness. The whole procedure has been evaluated and supervised by the staff of China Artists Association.
    Among the 4,000-odd pieces of works, we have seen different expressions and styles of artists worldwide, from which lots of excellent works with unique ideas, distinct themes and superior techniques stood out. 731 works have been selected at last-320 pieces from domestic and 411 from abroad. It was after several rounds of repeated evaluation, comparison and discussion among the 9 professional juries that the result finally presented. Under the supervision of China Artists Association and Ms. Hexun and Mr. Likang, the staff of the Guanlan International Print Biennial Office has submitted the final result of the evaluation to the jury. The preliminary evaluation has come to a perfect ending. For the time being, the staff of the Guanlan International Print Biennial Office has been making orderly preparation for the re-evaluation in this April and the grand opening of the Biennial in May.
