Preface

The print artists who link the past and the future have a special position in the development history of China contemporary printmaking. They inherit the new printmaking tradition of 1930s and 1940s, and inspire the next generation artists in new time. They make excellent contribution to the form transformation and ontology construction, education for the professional team and other organization and leading activities.

Song Yuanwen is an excellent representative in this group, as the director of Printmaking Dept., Central Academy of Fine Arts, he dedicated in building the Printmaking teaching system with Chinese features. Also as the Vice-president of China Printmaking Artists Association and director of China Artists Association Print Art Committee, he works hard in organizing print activities and lead print in a health developing way. Moreover, as the representative artist of landscape prints, he puts the black-white landscape prints to a higher position through mastery of artistic idioms, digging of idea condition and lyric style. Meanwhile, he created a lot of watercolor works. Here we chose some representative works in his different time which we can see his art development and style.
